Take you through the grades and performance characteristics of ABS Plastic Board

03/12/2022

With the development of science and technology, many new and better materials have been developed, and ABS Plastic Board is one of them.

ABS Plastic Board

ABS plastic is a new composite material and one of the five synthetic resins. ABS plastic its impact resistance, heat resistance, low-temperature resistance, chemical resistance, and excellent electrical properties. ABS plastic also has easy processing, product size stability, good surface gloss, and is easy to paint and color. The surface can be sprayed metal, electroplating, welding, hot pressing, bonding, and other secondary processing. ABS plastic is widely used in industrial fields such as machinery, automobiles, electronics and electrical appliances, instruments and meters, textiles and construction, etc. It is a highly versatile thermoplastic engineering plastic.

ABS Plastic Board can be divided into general grade, high flow grade, electroplating grade, extrusion grade, induction grade, fire grade, heat resistant grade, etc. The characteristics and performance analysis of each step are as follows.

1. General grade ABS Plastic Board.

General-grade ABS Plastic Board has the characteristics of high gloss, high rigidity, and good impact resistance. The base color is white and stable, so it is used in various home appliances, computer housings, OA product housings, toys, and other products. In addition, general-grade ABS is also suitable for other secondary processing applications such as painting, plating, adhesion, etc.

2. High-flow grade ABS Plastic Board.

With the market's different needs, the product design trend is gradually becoming more extensive and complex. For these products, the fluidity of the general-grade ABS Plastic Board may not be sufficient if forced to use injection molding. Easy to produce molding stress or underfill, shrinkage, and other problems, can be applied to large size and more complex structures of the molded products and can be achieved to shorten the molding time and reduce injection molding costs.

3. Plating grade ABS Plastic Board.

The plating process can be used for a wide range of plastic applications. In addition to the bright appearance, it can increase the weather resistance, surface hardness, and wear resistance of plastic, presenting a variety of textural characteristics. Plating grade ABS Plastic Board is treated with a mixture of sulfuric acid and chromic acid solution, the rubber part of the surface will be eroded into irregular pores so that when plating, metal particles can enter the pores and firmly attach to the plastic cover to achieve the effect of anchoring, improve the adhesion strength of the plating layer and the plastic surface.

4. Extrusion grade ABS Plastic Board.

For large objects or products with complex shapes that cannot be accommodated by conventional injection molding, extrusion into sheets followed by thermoforming is a suitable process, such as luggage, suitcases, refrigerator and freezer liners, or other large containers. The requirements for extruded ABS Plastic Board are focused on sheet processing and thermoforming.

The following characteristics are required to match the features of the extruded sheet and the thermoforming processability.

(1) Stable melt flow and smooth sheet processing.

(2) High melt strength, good thermoforming properties, and no uneven thickness.

(3) Special formula design can be used for cyclopentane foamed refrigerator sheets.

5. Transparent grade ABS Plastic Board.

Transparent grade ABS Plastic Board is used to add a third ingredient to adjust the flexure rate of ABS base material so that the flexure rate of the base material and rubber elastomer is the same, to achieve the purpose of transparent material. It has a stable color, fluidity, and transparency and is suitable for making computer cases, home appliances, toys, and everyday products.

Processing and molding precautions.

(1) The strength of ABS is not as muscular as that of general-grade ABS, so the mold should be designed to avoid residual stress. Avoid low-temperature injection molding, high-pressure filling, and other operations that may cause residual stress in molded products.

(2) The chemical resistance of transparent ABS is not as good as that of general grade ABS, and the chemical resistance of ABS is more likely to absorb moisture in the air than that of available quality ABS.

The above is the knowledge about the grade and performance characteristics of ABS Plastic Board. If you need a more detailed understanding, welcome to contact us!
