Hips generally refers to high impact polystyrene

High impact polystyrene, also known as hips, is a thermoplastic material made of elastomer modified polystyrene. The two-phase system composed of rubber phase and continuous polystyrene phase has developed into an important polymer commodity in the world. This kind of general-purpose product has a wide range of impact properties and processing properties, which makes it have a wide range of applications, such as automobile, apparatus, electric products, furniture, household appliances, telecommunications, electronics, computers, disposable products, medicine, packaging and packaging The entertainment market.

Chinese Name: high impact polystyrene

English Name: high impact polystyrene

Nickname: hips

Water solubility: oil and water resistant, soluble in benzene, toluene, ethyl acetate, dichloroethane and other organic solvents.

Density: relative density 1.04-1.06 g / ml

Appearance: white opaque beads or particles

brief introduction

Polystyrene is one of the oldest industrial production of thermoplastic polymers, with a wide range of very versatile products. The advantages of this bright and pure amorphous plastic are easy processing, rigidity, dimensional stability and transparency, but its application is limited by its low impact strength.

High impact polystyrene (HIPS) is a kind of polystyrene based on a small amount of polybutadiene. With "island structure", the matrix is plastic and the dispersed phase is rubber. It has many characteristics

1. Impact resistant polystyrene is thermoplastic resin;

2. Odorless, odorless, hard material, good dimensional stability after forming;

3. Excellent high dielectric insulation;

4. Non quality low water absorption material;

5. It has good gloss and is easy to paint.

Production method

Hips has two basic processes: batch process and continuous process. Prepolymerization is generally used in both processes. After prepolymerization, the polymerization continues in suspension form in batch process and in solution form in continuous process. Therefore, batch process is also called bulk suspension process, and continuous process is also called solution process.
